Dr. Kelly and the My Smile Dentistry team feel bringing advanced dental technology in the office doesn’t just make our lives easier – it makes our patients’ lives easier too. Therefore, we use 3D scans to guide us when placing dental implants.
Dental implants have been completed for years before the invention of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), but thanks to this technology, procedures are now more efficient than ever.
After we create a 3D scan of your oral region, we will be able to see the exact positioning of everything in your mouth, including your gums, nerves, jawbone, and teeth. Using this information, Dr. Kelly will be able to place your implants precisely for optimal results.
Before it’s time for your surgery, we will place you underneath the CBCT scanner in an upright position. As the scan begins, the machine will rotate around the head, capturing a 3D image. Seconds later, it’s all done, and we’re ready to move onto the planning stage.
Using the information from the scan, Dr. Kelly will get a much better idea of how the implants should be positioned in your jawbone, making the procedure faster and the results much more comfortable.
3D guided implant surgery has many advantages compared to the use of 2D X-rays. Some of the benefits include:
